Local businesses from Hastings and Rye meet Sir Keir Starmer

Catherine and Laurence, who run the White Rock Hotel, meet with Keir Starmer.

Helena, White Rock hotel owners and the Labour Leader meeting ahead of small business UK

Ahead of #smallbizsatuk, Helena took small business owners from Hastings and Rye to meet Keir Starmer and members of the Shadow Cabinet and share the challenges they face on a range of issues.

Helena said, "It is our independent shops, cafes, pubs and hotels that do so much to enrich our lives and our community providing jobs, training and driving economic growth.

Labour will help small businesses thrive by overhauling business rates, ensuring the online giants pay their fair share of tax and cracking down on late payments. We’ll also bring down energy bills for good."

Labour is on the side of small business:

  • Business rates: Labour will make online giants pay their fair share and introduce annual revaluations with savings passed on immediately

  • Late payments: Labour will legislate to make sure invoices are paid on time

  • Bring down energy bills for good: by investing in home-grown renewables and establishing GB energy, a new energy generation company

  • Ensure small businesses aren’t at the back of the queue for public contracts
