After signing a book of condolence in the reception at Muriel Matters House, Helena said:
"For seventy years, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II served us tirelessly. A remarkable life of tireless public service, dedication and dignity.
"Thank You, Your Majesty.
"Rest in peace.
"In the period ahead we will mourn and celebrate the most amazing life, but today I am thinking of her family and closest ones."
The condolence book is there for others in Hastings to sign during this period of mourning.
Helena and the Hastings & Rye Labour Party have suspended all campaigning during the period of mourning.
